A few friends and I gathered for drinks at the beginning of August in a way that as parents of young children we do far too irregularly. The last time we had all been together was a guys’ weekend in Hurley, Wisconsin where I had a lot of fun playing such fine artists as FKA Twigs, Kat Dhalia, the Wytches and Benjamin Booker among others in random small town bars thanks to the copious deployment of internet attached jukeboxes. The three of us have perhaps a bit more than the average amount of passion for music and so soon a plan was hatched to escape the responsibilities of our families a bit more often and attend some shows. As your curator here, my friends showed far too much deference in allowing me to nominate a slate of artists, but on the plus side it means our first show will be Jenny Hval at the Seventh Street Entry with Briana Marela.
Ms. Hval first caught my attention when she appeared in our June 9th Fresh Cuts and on Episode 35 of the Pruning Session with “The Battle Is Over” embedded below. I learned a lot about her from Jesse Cohen’s No Effects podcast embedded below as well. I look forward to a night out with friends and interesting music. If you’d like to catch her as well, check her tour schedule at her site or at Bands In Town.
Briana Marela is someone I am not familiar with, but I will be much sooner as she is on the Fresh Cuts list for August 21st that I am about to embark listening to for this week’s voting. Make sure to check out more about Ms. Marela after the Jenny Hval embeds. You can check out her tour schedule at her shows link on her website or Bands In Town as well.
